Avelar Announces White Paper on Testing ‘Sticky Stucco’
Oakland, CA (PRWEB) May 29, 2015 -- Richard Avelar & Associates, one of the premier architectural consulting firms in the San Francisco Bay area, today announced that it has published onto the Web a white paper that summarizes key results from two years of mockup testing and analysis of a condition (sometimes called “sticky stucco”) that has been intermittently observed at deconstructed buildings where traditional plaster cement cladding systems have been found to be aggressively bonded to underlying flashing membranes by multiple manufacturers.
Eight rounds of comparative testing, managed by principal contractor Lonnie Haughton and principal architect David M. Field, AIA, encompassed a wide range of material, application, time, curing and performance variables related to stucco mixes, flashings, wraps and papers. The evaluated products included: four bagged stucco cement mixes from different manufacturers; ten flashing membranes (six manufacturers); three asphaltic building papers (three manufacturers); two polymeric wraps (two manufacturers); and two ‘stucco sands’ from separate quarries.
Haughton and Field report their mockup panels have disproved a wide range of myths and speculation regarding this ‘sticky stucco’ phenomenon. Haughton adds: “Our testing clearly demonstrates that this condition is not produced by any specific flashing or cement product from any particular manufacturer.”
