Avitus Group Educates CA Employers on State’s New Paid Sick Leave Law; Launches Online Q & A Forum as Employee Right to Accrue & Take Sick Leave Takes Effect 7.1.15
San Diego, California (PRWEB) June 04, 2015 -- Virtually all California employees, full time and part time, have the right to accrue and take 3 days (24 hours) of paid sick leave per year starting July 1, 2015. The new state law took effect January 1, 2015 and the right to accrue and take leave begins July 1st. There are specific eligibility and accrual requirements and this has many employers scrambling to make sure they are in compliance with the new law. The paid sick leave law, or the Healthy Workplaces/Healthy Families Act of 2014, is considered a protected leave and there are substantial monetary penalties for non-compliance of the law and/or being found denying or withholding days from an employee. Avitus Group, a business solutions company with California offices, is stepping up to educate California Employers via a California Paid Sick Leave Law Online Q & A Forum that answers the top 10 questions about the law.
“The Healthy Workplaces/Healthy Families Act of 2014 is definitely something new for California employers, especially those who do not have a current policy in place for employees to take paid sick leave. Many employers do not have a sick leave policy and they will need to implement one to meet the minimum requirements. Even those that do have a policy that meets the requirements of the new law still need to take action and officially notify each employee of their rights,” says Avitus Group Director of Human Resources & Risk Management Cynthia Hancock. “Avitus Group makes sure our members are always in compliance with all HR laws, including this new law, and we’re happy to help educate all California businesses on the in’s and out’s of the new paid sick leave law.”
Employers have several responsibilities to comply with the new law. The top action items include displaying a poster where employees can easily read it, providing written notice to employees with sick leave rights, providing for accrual of one hour for every 30 hours worked, providing use of 3 days of paid sick leave each year, showing how many days of sick leave an employee has available on a pay stub or document issued the same day as a paycheck and keeping records of hours earned and used for three years. Businesses are invited to visit Avitus Group’s California Paid Sick Leave Law Online Q & A Forum to submit specific questions about the law and to review the top 10 FAQ’s (frequently asked questions) regarding the new paid sick leave law.
