Award Winning Children’s Bilingual Reading Campaign Kicks Off the Month with the Premiere of the Documentary Read Conmigo: A Journey To Bilingual America
Miami, FL (PRWEB) May 02, 2016 -- Read Conmigo, the award-winning bilingual literacy campaign for children sponsored by Infinity Auto Insurance, is celebrating the third annual Bilingual Literacy Month. Bilingual Literacy Month raises awareness about the importance and benefits of raising bilingual kids. Read Conmigo kicked off the month with the premiere of the new documentary Read Conmigo: a Journey to Bilingual America on Sunday, May 1, at the historic Tower Theater, located in the heart of Miami’s bustling Hispanic neighborhood, Little Havana.
In its first-ever documentary, Read Conmigo explores the changing landscape of mainstream America and highlights the educational advantage of mastering dual literacy. At the core of the film is the importance of parental and guardian involvement in the development of a child’s reading ability. This exciting new documentary furthers the message and significance of supporting bilingual education and literacy as it relates to the proven success of our nation’s students.

Read Conmigo will host a series of school activities throughout the month. Most notably, the campaign will partner with the Miami Marlins for a special reading at one lucky school by a current player. Additionally, Read Conmigo will participate in two events with The Children’s Trust as part of the “Read to Learn Books for Free Book Drive.” There also will be additional classroom read-aloud sessions with community leaders and local celebrities at select schools across the district.
Throughout the month, the campaign will also be looking for its next superstar author. Aspiring authors will have the opportunity to win $1,000 should the manuscript be selected. To enter, choose a theme that is relevant to today’s youth and select one of the current Read Conmigo characters or create a new one. Each manuscript must be submitted in both English and Spanish.
In addition, the Read Conmigo campaign will inaugurate a new award honoring a Bilingual Educator of the Year. The social media driven contest will celebrate outstanding bilingual educators. Three winners will be selected – first and second place will be selected via the most votes on Facebook and third place will be selected by a judge’s panel. Nominations, which can be submitted through a special tab on the Read Conmigo Facebook page, opened on April 11th and will remain open through May 30th.
Read Conmigo provides parents with bilingual storybooks, apps, and online resources to read with their children in English and Spanish. Parents have access to one of the nation’s few completely bilingual online libraries, with more than thirty downloadable e-books to share with children. By providing parents with a plethora of online resources, Read Conmigo bridges the gap for many Hispanic parents that hesitate to read to their children in English and Spanish due to language barriers.
