Award-Winning, Utah-Made, Student Short Film "47 Minutes" Invited to Screen at the Independent Filmmaker's Lounge During the Sundance Film Festival 2015
Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) January 20, 2015 -- The Independent Filmmakers Lounge, nestled in the heart of the Sundance Film Festival, has once again struck gold with its screening of the indie short film “47 Minutes,” a film based on the nationally acclaimed one act play surrounding the events before Sept.11, 2001. The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with mingling and a brief introduction from the director and writer. There will be a Q and A following the screening of the film.
Produced by 47 Minutes Productions, LLC., the 20 minute short film revamps the original theatrical play about three perfect strangers; a selfless flight attendant, a down-and-out paramedic and an overworked lawyer go about a normal morning when a single act throws their seemingly separate lives on a collision course, converging on the moment that defined this generation.
The inception of the project came about when the Director, Austin Wilson, was watching the stage play in 2011. Being so moved by the play, he approached Joshua French to turn “47 Minutes” into his thesis film for Utah Valley University. Two and a half years later the film is finally complete. Production involved a three day trip to New York to shoot mass amounts of b-roll, shooting in an actual fire station and creating a practical plane set from scratch. The film took eight shooting days spread out from Oct. of 2012 and wrapping in March of 2013. With a tremendous outpouring of volunteer work and donated equipment the productions total budget was under $15,000. Tragedy struck the 47 Minutes team when Austin’s dad passed away from a plane accident in the middle of post-production. Austin, being the oldest child, had to attend to his family. Austin took the pain and the experience gained from his personal tragedy and focused it into the film to more clearly convey the themes of the preciousness of life and the unity that comes from people overcoming tragedy.
"47 Minutes," having just been completed in November of 2014 has already achieved notoriety by being an "Official Selection" of the Student Filmmaker Awards and also received the “Award of Excellence" from The Indie Fest. The team is planning on submitting the film for the Student Academy Awards, the Student Emmys, among other festivals. It's ensemble cast includes Corbin Allred, Melanie Thompson, Kristen Marie Jensen, Joshua French, Max Mount, Andrew W. Johnson, Arisael Rivera, Jake Van Wagoner, Andrew Diaz, Amy-Jo Henderson and Marlon V Gaines.
47 Minutes Productions is actively in the process of working on additional of projects, with one of them being the feature version of “47 Minutes,” called “Three Days.” The film will revolve around eight characters’ lives and their perspectives of the day before, the day of, and the day after 9/11, based on another stage play written by Joshua French.
