Awkward's Nikki Deloach Talks About the Cast's Support During Her Pregnancy and Her Time in the Mickey Mouse Club in an Interview on AfterBuzz TV
Los Angeles, CA, (PRWEB) July 26, 2013 -- (afterbuzztv.com)-- Awkward's Nikki Deloach made an appearance on AfterBuzz TV's Awkward aftershow Wednesday night. In her appearance, Deloach talks about the cast's support during her pregnancy, her time in the Mickey Mouse Club, and her character potentially 'hooking up' with Awkward 'Hottie' character Matty McKibben.
Nikki Deloach on the cast's support during her pregnancy:
Nikki says, “Ashley [Rickards], who plays my daughter, got me the stroller of all strollers. It's like the Cadillac of all strollers. I come into my trailer and there’s this huge stroller…and it makes me want to cry because my baby will have this stroller that was given to me by somebody that I care about and that I work with every single day. [The cast] would all teach him…a quality of theirs that I would want my baby to have. Each one of them are so special in their own way…Every single one of these people on the show are so special and different.”
Nikki on her time in the Mickey Mouse Club and working with Christina Aguilera:
Nikki says, “It was a really special special show. Anything you could have ever wanted to learn, you learned. We worked, we worked hard. Even at 12, [Christina Aguilera] was just amazing. I knew she was gonna be huge one day with out a doubt, that one... she just had it.”
On her character's potentially 'hooking up' with Awkward 'Hottie' character Matty McKibben:
Nikki jokes, “I pitch that at the beginning of every season in the writers room, and they’re say no... I’m like come on! It’s not really that big of a stretch, a fantasy episode. Lacey and Matty y’know... make out. Come on! This is the challenge With Lacey that’s so hard…you have to still seem like a mom at the end of the day. As ridiculous as she may be sometimes or as many mistakes she can make, she has to still feel like a mom…you have to be able to land the joke and in the next moment find the heart…that’s what makes her the favorite character I’ve ever played.
On the audition process for Lacey Hamilton:
Nikki says, “I almost did not even audition for [the role] because I had tested for so many pilots that pilot season where I had gone in for Moms…and they’d all say 'she’s just not old enough'…and then I wasn’t young enough to play girls in college. It was a weird age. So this came up and I read the pilot script and it scared me because the role I thought was so nuanced and complex and didn't know if I was good enough for it. The only way I knew how to approach the character was not to think about what they’re looking for, instead just to do my version of her, the way I saw her and have a good time because there’s no way I was getting [the role]. It was the most fun I’ve ever had in a room…ever, and then the next day I got a call saying 'they want you to test.'”
