Indianapolis, IN (PRWEB) April 08, 2014 -- Quebec-based B3CG Interconnect Inc., a leading manufacturer of harness assemblies and electromechanical components, has partnered with EnerDel Inc., a leading supplier of advanced lithium-ion batteries, to develop and manufacture traction batteries for Lion Bus Inc., Canadian school bus producer.
The Quebec Ministry recently awarded Lion Bus a project to develop an all-electric school bus. This project, part of the Transportation Electrification Strategy promoted by the Canadian Government, is a significant step for Quebec to become a world leader in the electrification of transportation. Under the government strategy, more than 10,000 all-electric vehicles are aimed to be introduced on Quebec roads by 2017. The all-electric school bus market in Canada is estimated to be over 250 buses annually.
Each 72-seat vehicle will feature composite body materials and an advanced electric power-train equipped with more than 100kWh of lithium-ion batteries. The system will allow an expected range of more than 50 miles, sufficient to travel the typical school bus route. The main battery components, including EnerDel’s newest high-density Moxie+ modules and Secure+ Battery Management System, will be built by EnerDel in Indiana, US. The final battery and wiring harness assembly will be completed by B3CG in Quebec.
“The Quebec Government has created an exceptional program to develop and electrify public transportation. We are pleased to be part of this technical and economic revolution,” said David Roberts, EnerDel CEO. “Participation in this national program would not be possible without strong partnership with B3CG. This business award highlights a number of recent projects we have delivered to customers in Canada.”
“Collaborating with EnerDel gives us access to reliable and safe battery technology and allows us to enter into the battery industry,” stated Stefan Baumans, B3CG President and CEO. “We spent significant efforts selecting the right supplier from among the key players in the lithium-ion market. EnerDel’s product offerings fulfilled our needs for a high quality, safe product. Their unique aftermarket approach allows our end customers to enjoy worry free operation and lower Total Cost of Ownership.”
The first prototype battery system components have been delivered and are being prepared for system integration and vehicle testing. Start of series production, and first vehicles introduction to regular service, is planned in 2015.
