Baby Boomer Music Buff’s New Work Reviews & Redefines 20th Century Music
Itasca, IL (PRWEB) May 14, 2014 -- Author Colin Bratkovich’s interest in the development of the popular music heard today was the result of the technology of the recorded voice becoming marketed to the masses between 1900 through 1950. The manuscript Just Remember This, updated into book form as Just Remember This is about music before the 1950s in America and their popular interpreters. Bratkovich’s interest in the music started in fun. It gradually became serious as he began to explore the music produced in that era, along with the vocalists of popular music, and a unique culture reflecting advances in music technology which made music developed in America more easily accessible than ever before. Bratkovich describes the genesis of the phenomena thus:
“Indeed ‘genre’ and labeling of American music started here, and there, and from everywhere. While the old adage of ‘always starting from somewhere’ could be noted in every century, the 1900s had produced the (music) technology (we know today).”
Indeed, the general public lapped up the opportunity to be entertained by modern technology. There was a hunger for entertainment from the 1900s onward, even if those times of had long work days, World War I, the Great Depression and World War II.
Most people then, and in later decades, were highly interested in the lives of vocalists. Some of Colin’s lists of musical entertainers have been forgotten, buried by the passage of time and the quickly expanding, technology aided expansion of the music industry. Bratkovich numbers himself among the Baby Boomer Generation–post-war, the need for good music became ever more apparent for the young of the era. He advises readers to “listen” and “compare” and trace the genetics or lineages of many musical genres that the first of the twentieth century gave birth to. Bratkovich concludes that although many of the Boomer’s elders had it wrong, “Modern ears just could find some ‘rock and roll’ (in the folklore of the land, the music of the musical stage, vaudvillians of a peculiar ‘black face’ identity, and in the emergence of popular dance bands).” Just Remember This enlightens readers on the proletarian and American genius of music in the twentieth century.
