Bad Driving In New York Is Leading To A State Wide Surge In Insurance Rates, Says New Report On Insurance Panda
New York (PRWEB) July 29, 2013 -- Online insurance quote provider InsurancePanda.com, in their latest report http://www.insurancepanda.com/1062/insurance-rates-rise-new-york/ shows how drivers in New York suffer from high auto insurance rates and how this relates to bad driving habits.
Giving an example, Insurance Panda analyzes what the latest large-scale mission on "dangerous drivers" can mean for New Yorker's car insurance rates. Over the last winter holiday week, New York police issued over 33,000 traffic tickets and made 538 DUI arrests. This “crack down” in bad holiday driving was carried out in an effort to curb drunk driving and underage drinking. The New York State Police set up 29 sobriety checkpoints and put an additional 41 officers on duty in order to find these drunk drivers.
Irresponsible, unfocused, and “bad” driving is a growing problem in the state of New York, says Insurance Panda, and this problem is typically amplified during the holidays, such as the 4th of July. The reason for this, they say, is that there are more drivers on the road traveling during these seasons. Mixed with the partying, celebration, and drinking, driving abilities tend to decrease. Drunk driving and traffic violations, as a result, are often common place during the holidays in the United States. Therefore, its important not only to stay safe on the road, but also to keep dangerous drivers off the road, says Insurance Panda.
These traffic violations that are continuing to be “racked up” by New York drivers are more than likely to cause an increase in insurance rates, says InsurancePanda.com. “If you are going to disobey the driving laws, you already know that you stand a chance of getting a ticket but you should be aware of other long lasting effects your decision can have,” says the article. Insurance rates can increase by up to 22% depending on the severity of the violation.
In the state of New York, the department of motor vehicles (DMV) issues points to drivers whenever new traffic violations appear on their record. Higher points lead to higher insurance rates as these points will stay on a New York driver's insurance record for up to three years, depending on the severity of the violation. Insurance Panda says that these driving records are made viewable by insurance providers and that these points are “highly likely” to lead to an increase in insurance premiums.
In the report, Insurance Panda offers advice to New York drivers who are plagued by points on their driving record. They point out that safe driving is the best long-term solution to removing these demerit points, but that other methods are available in getting these points removed. These methods include taking part in New York's Driver Responsibility Assessment program (which can range in cost from $100 to $750), or take part in a driver improvement course with the DMV.
