Bambeco Fights Climate Change With Reclaimed Wood Products
Baltimore, MD. (PRWEB) August 12, 2015 -- Deforestation is one of the greatest widespread threats facing the planet and it has a major impact on everything from the extinction of wildlife and erosion of land to global changes in temperatures and weather patterns. Bambeco, the premier retailer for sustainable home goods, offers eco-friendly furniture made from reclaimed wood to help counter the devastating impact of deforestation.
According to the Forestry Department of the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization, half of the world’s forests have already been cleared or degraded and 4,500 acres of forest are lost every hour. In the US, we are especially responsible for this destruction. More than 50% of the timber and 72% of the paper used throughout the world is consumed by just 22% of the population in the US, Europe, and Japan. Additionally, the continued destruction of trees leads to warmer temperatures and more frequent droughts, subsequently hindering the growth of new forests…a dangerous cycle.
Utilizing products made from recycled materials and reclaimed wood can reduce the clearing of new trees. According to the EPA, approximately 1 billion feet of usable lumber is disposed of in the US each year. Reusing this wood not only provides building materials without destroying new trees, it decreases the amount of energy consumed (compared to disposing of it) while also reducing the overall amount of waste that reaches landfills.
Bambeco’s reclaimed wood products are fashioned from everything from old barns to wine barrels. Reusing these materials is not just eco-conscious; it also gives each item its own, built-in history. Each piece is given new life while retaining marks of its old one, a patina of experiences spanning decades and continuing in a new bed, bench or tray.
Offerings include Reclaimed Wood Beds sourced from an upstate New York farmhouse built by Dutch farmers nearly 200 years ago and a century-old Michigan farmhouse. Previously used wine barrels are transformed into serving trays and candle holders. Other products include kitchen accessories, stools, and tables, all crafted and restored from reclaimed wood.
“Protecting our planet’s forests is an important step in our fight against climate change,” Susan Aplin, Bambeco Co-Founder and CEO said. “ Not only is it environmentally friendly, reclaimed wood also adds personality to every piece, an air of mystery about where the wood has been and what it has seen, and an entirely authentic rustic look. It is truly the perfect balance between sustainability and style.”
