Baptist Jacksonville and Baptist South Top Choice for Cancer Care
Jacksonville, Fla. (PRWEB) June 09, 2015 -- Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville and Baptist Medical Center South have received the Women’s Choice Award ® as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Cancer Care.
According to the American Cancer Society, more than one million people in the U.S. are diagnosed with cancer each year. This award signifies Baptist Jacksonville and Baptist South’s commitment and passion towards an extraordinary health care experience for women and all patients. By carrying the Women’s Choice Award seal, the two Baptist hospitals join an elite network of hospitals committed to a global mission to empower women to make smart health care choices.
The Women’s Choice Award® sets the standard for helping women make smarter choices through education, empowerment, and validation. Awards are determined by evidence-based research and identify the brands, products and services most recommended and trusted by women.

Baptist Health has also been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as having the best cancer program in the region. Baptist Health and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center have signed a ground-breaking partnership to transform oncology care for adult patients in northeast Florida and southeast Georgia. The institutions are creating a joint cancer program to enhance access to MD Anderson’s world-renowned treatment protocols, clinical trials and translational research. Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center is anticipating opening in the fall.

LeeAnn Mengel, administrator of Oncology Services for Baptist Health, added that cancer knows no boundaries.

Studies show that women are tasked with making the majority of all health care decisions for their family. More than 800,000 women were diagnosed with cancer in 2014 with the most common cancers for women being skin, breast, lung, colorectal and uterine cancer.

Baptist Jacksonville and Baptist South are among an elite group of 331 hospitals who have earned the 2015 Women’s Choice Award by meeting the highest cancer care accreditation standards of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. The hospitals are also recognized for their excellence in clinical performance with regard to patient safety measures and for their high recommendation rate, a measure that is important to women when choosing a hospital.
Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville and its Margaret and Robert Hill Breast Center in March also earned the 2015 Women’s Choice Award as one of America’s Best Breast Centers. The Hill Breast Center is the only dedicated breast center of its size in the region.
