Barbara Bowes of Career Partners International – Winnipeg Empowers Women at 2015 SHEday Conference
Chapel Hill, NC (PRWEB) January 28, 2015 -- Barbara Bowes, President of Legacy Bowes Group, the Winnipeg offices of leading global outplacement and executive coaching services firm, Career Partners International, served as a keynote speaker at the inaugural SHEday Conference held at the Winnipeg Convention Centre earlier this month.
Bowes presented to 600 attendees. The SHEday Conference was designed to give young women the opportunity to meet successful women leaders and learn how they can advance their careers.
“I was asked to tell my story of how I moved from being an unknown woman in a big city to where I am today,” commented Bowes. “I’ve become a high-profile figure locally with my own radio show and a weekly column in our newspaper, all by believing in my uniqueness and potential.”
Bowes shared how expressing and utilizing her individuality as a marketing opportunity built her professional brand and enabled her to grow as a professional to become the leader she is today.
In an interview with CBC News, Bowes explained that women struggle when first entering leadership or management roles, and that once they understand the need to have confidence and market themselves, they are able to overcome the struggle.
“We’re incredibly proud of Barbara’s accomplishments and appreciate the invitation for her to speak at the first SHEday conference in Winnipeg,” commented David P. Hemmer, President and CEO of Career Partners International. “She’s a wonderful educator and role model for young professional women.”
Other keynote speakers included executives at IBM, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, as well as consulting firms and local advertising agencies. The event was created by local female leaders who believed Winnipeg needed a successful networking and leadership development event for women in the area. Originally slated to host only 100 attendees, the event expanded rapidly to host 600 ticket holders.
