Barlow Anderson and Jibson to Receive Honorary Degrees at SLCC Commencement

Salt Lake Community College officials this week named Jesselie Barlow Anderson and Ronald W. Jibson the College’s 2014 Honorary Doctorate recipients. They will receive the awards during the College’s May 8 Commencement Ceremony at the Maverik Center, 3200 South Decker Lake Drive in West Valley City, Utah.
Barlow Anderson served two full terms from 2005-2013 on the SLCC Board of Trustees, chairing the Board for one term, and was instrumental in establishing the College’s Washington D.C. internship program. Jibson, through his employer Questar and personally, has contributed toward an existing SLCC scholarship program and was pivotal in helping the College establish an energy grant that has benefited students.
“These two individuals have given so much of their time and have invested so much of themselves in this great state,” said SLCC Interim President Deneece Huftalin. “It’s fitting that the College recognizes them with the highest honor it can bestow, and we look forward to their continued involvement in this community.”
Barlow Anderson served on the Westminster College Boards of Trustees. She has also served on the governing boards for: Education First; Olene S. Walker Institute of Politics and Public Service at Weber State University; Success in Education Foundation; University of Utah Hospital and National Advisory Council; Utah Symphony and Utah Opera; and the Waterford School. She earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Utah. She and her husband Scott have three children and four grandchildren.
In addition to Jibson’s duties as president and chief executive officer for Questar Corporation, he also serves on the board of directors for American Gas Association, representing more than 200 energy companies and more than 65 million customers. He is chairman of Utah State University’s Board of Trustees and the Salt Lake Chamber Board of Governors. He is past chair of Western Energy Institute, Junior Achievement of Utah and the Economic Development Corporation of Utah. He has served on boards for United Way of Salt Lake and the Utah Shakespearean Festival. Jibson earned a civil engineering degree from Utah State University and his M.B.A. from Westminster College. He and his wife Janet have three sons and eight grandchildren.
