Barrie Retirement Living Opens New Residential Units for Seniors

There is also a weekly housekeeping service, making tasks such as dusting, vacuuming, garbage disposal, and window cleaning a priority. Added to these services are other amenities, such as cable T.V., wireless internet, and a full backyard for residents to enjoy. They can also feel more comfortable since the living room, kitchen, and bathroom of the one-story home is accessible for all tenants.
In recent years, concerns over the conditions in long term care facilities and nursing homes have received growing media attention. Horrific accounts and video footage of elderly abuse in these facilities make headlines, and highlight a need to bring those accountable to justice. A recent example of these crimes occurred at Fleming Long-Term Care Home in Peterborough, Ontario, where a hidden camera revealed the mistreatment of 85 year-old Hellen Parent. Her son, Camille Parent, installed the camera after he suspected that nurses in the home were abusing his mother. Four of the employees were subsequently suspended.
Such stories reveal gaping holes in the management of these facilities, making it an issue that requires urgent intervention. Barrie Retirement Living plans to create a space for older adults that’s free of the undesirable conditions present in many other facilities. By providing an environment that resembles a normal home, the company aims to reduce the emotional burdens that hang over families when taking care of seniors becomes a challenge.
