Be Inspired to Follow Your Passions at the Inn at Warner Hall’s August Dinner, Discussion and Dance
Gloucester, Va. (PRWEB) July 22, 2013 -- The Inn at Warner Hall will say farewell to summer in style at the fifth event in its Dinner and Discussion series, which will feature a live musical performance and dancing in addition to a gourmet buffet dinner and thoughtful conversation.
On Wednesday, August 21 at 5:30 p.m., L.P. Butler, III and John Mason of the musical duo L.P. & J will perform and speak about music and following your passions.
Butler sings and plays trumpet and Mason plays the keyboard and provides vocal accompaniment. Their play list includes hit songs from a wide variety of artists such as Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond, Billy Joel, the Spinners, Lou Rawls, Herb Alpert, Elton John, Tom Jones, the Beatles, Michael Buble, Kenny Rogers, Lionel Ritchie and more.
“It’s meaningful to focus on the need for people to keep their inner spirit alive, be it through music, painting or dancing,” said Theresa Stavens, who owns and serves as Innkeeper and Special Events Planner for the Inn at Warner Hall with husband, Troy. “L.P. & J shows us how it is possible to have full time careers and still pursue your passions!”
Butler, who also works at the shipyard in Newport News, began playing the trumpet when he was 10 and performed in his first group at 14. He toured the country and in 1980 formed L.P. and Company with musical friends in the Hampton Roads region.
“My parents loved country music,” Butler said. “My mother always had the radio going when I was growing up. My Dad actually suggested that I learn to play the trumpet because he liked the Big Band sound of Harry James.”
Mason, who teaches sixth grade in Newport News by day, is originally from New York City where he was once the New York State champion on the accordion. Before becoming a teacher, Mason played in New York clubs and around the state with his band.
L.P. & J’s discussion will be followed by a delicious buffet dinner by Warner Hall’s Chef Eric Garcia, during which L.P. & J will continue to perform their musical magic. Dancing is encouraged!
“Even though it’s a school night, you might have to stay up a little later to enjoy this great, fun music fest,” Stavens said.
The “Dinner and a Discussion” events are $50 per person and include dinner, complimentary wine and the featured speaker.
Seating is limited. Contact Warner Hall to reserve a seat at 800.331.2720 or info(at)warnerhall(dot)com.
ABOUT THE INN AT WARNER HALL:
Ideally situated at the head of the Severn River in Gloucester County, the manor house at Warner Hall stands on a neck of land occupied and built upon continually from the mid-17th century. The original six hundred-acre plantation site was established by Augustine Warner as a "land grant" from the British Crown. Augustine Warner received the acreage in exchange for bringing twelve settlers across the Atlantic Ocean to the Jamestown Settlement.
The two families associated with the property from this early period until well into the 19th century, the Warners and the Lewises, were among the most prominent families in Colonial Virginia. Some of the most recognized names in American history are direct descendants of Augustine Warner – George Washington, the first president of the United States, Robert E. Lee, the most famous Civil War General and Captain Meriwether Lewis, renowned American explorer of the Lewis & Clark expedition.
Queen Elizabeth II, the current monarch of England, is a direct descendent of Augustine Warner through the Bowes-Lyon family and the Earl of Strathmore. In England, Warner Hall is referred to as "The home of the Queen’s American ancestors."
For Theresa and Troy Stavens, the current stewards of Warner Hall and the Inn’s owners, Warner Hall is a dream come true. Their passion for hospitality and historic preservation led them to Warner Hall where they saw the perfect opportunity to use their financial management and marketing skills to preserve an historical property and pursue their real passion – making people happy.
