Beautify Earth Receives Full Support from Mayor of Santa Monica
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 19, 2015 -- Beautify Earth has recently received a glowing community endorsement from the Mayor of Santa Monica, CA. Beautify Earth is a non-profit organization aimed at “creating public and private art projects utilizing overlooked and blighted walls, street fixtures, utility boxes, and the rest of the urban streets-cape to help instill community pride in impoverished or neglected communities.” According to their mission statement, Beautify Earth seeks to engage new artistic voices through education and outreach programs designed to inspire and provide a framework for previously undiscovered talent to flourish and help communities. The art projects attract new businesses and improve the likelihood of community investment.
“Here in Santa Monica, we are blessed to have many creative organizations. One such organization is Beautify Earth who has been working with local businesses and neighbors to improve Lincoln Boulevard by beautifying it through murals and community engagement. Their work has inspired the community and created a colorful street from what was an eyesore for decades. Businesses with their murals have experienced significant increases in revenue and more pedestrian friendly businesses have opened and spruced up by doing their own gardening, paintwork and murals due to the impact,” says Pam O’Connor, Mayor of Santa Monica.
The visual and economic impact has been substantial, including:
• Business revenue increase of up to 50%
• Neighboring business and building owners painting and landscaping their property on their own, inspired by their neighbors’ makeovers
• The burst in commerce increases tax revenue for cities while allowing artists to showcase their work
• Cars can drive down artistic thoroughfares and locals can enjoy and take pride in their neighborhood
• Increased property values as the demand to lease properties in these areas grows
"We are so pleased with the endorsement of Mayor Pam O'Connor. It truly shows that a community can come together to make change. The truth is, blighted walls are completely unnecessary. I can't think of a single case where neglect looks better than art. It's just a matter of getting landlords and business owners to recognize the proven economic benefit of artistic walls, and opening up these opportunities to our world's artists. What a wonderful world it would be a million walls later." says Evan Meyer, founder of Beautify Earth
