Becky Alexander Reflects on Life With One Arm in New Memoir
DECATUR, Ala. (PRWEB) November 19, 2013 -- Becky Alexander shares the unique challenges of living with one arm and how she faces each day with courage, determination and a smile in her new collection of memoirs, “One Smile, One Arm: Life Experiences with One Arm” (published by WestBow Press).
Alexander invites readers to experience life with one arm through 25 heartwarming stories in “One Smile, One Arm.” They span a variety of life stages – birth and infancy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood and parenthood – and describe how she coped with the various limitations during each. In “Dumbest Question,” she is asked if she’s right-handed or left-handed. In “Friday Night Lights,” Alexander’s father manufactures a prosthetic hand using the mechanism from an ice scooper, and a U.S. congressman comes to her aid when her prosthetic arm activates security alarms in “Capitol Hill.”
“Everybody has a limitation or a challenge of some kind. Seeing me overcome mine and live a full, adventurous life can inspire others to fight harder to overcome their limitations and challenges,” Alexander writes. “My limitation may put their limitations into perspective – maybe theirs aren’t so bad after all. Or even if their limitations are worse, they can see the need and benefit of fighting to overcome them.”
