Benchmark Education Introduces a Common Core Solution in Wyoming
Cheyenne, Wyoming (PRWEB) February 21, 2014 -- The Benchmark Education Company has proudly introduced a new educational program that meets the Common Core standards in Wyoming. The program is aptly named Benchmark Literacy and is quickly gaining recognition not only in Wyoming but other states in the country that are coming to grips with the Common Core.
Benchmark's K-6 literacy program is not something that is unusual in the State but according to the company, Benchmark Literacy enables students to access:
- Interactive Read-aloud Strategies
- Whole Group Mini-Lessons
- Differentiated Small Group/Guided Reading
- Independent Reading
- Phonics & Word Study
- Writing
combined with a built-in assessment piece, School Districts in Wyoming are able to quickly come into compliance with the new State Standards in literacy and writing.
According to a 2013 research study as performed by the Main Street Academix for the Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia, the Benchmark Literacy program provided surprising results. "Students performed considerably better than the Virginia state average on the SOLE/LA Assessment after the Benchmark Education program had been implemented in the school," the study found.
Stated by one principal that was involved in the study, "Benchmark Literacy exceeded my expectations. The state reading scores came up significantly in every grade level. The social studies state scores were higher than they have ever been—we believe very much that Benchmark Literacy contributed to that. Overall we are thrilled! The teachers embraced it. It really was a wonderful support for our kids."
Main Street Academix goes even further by stating, numbers from the study are more than just high marks, gains of this type are "termed 'rare' or 'admirable' in the world of educational literacy programs" they reported.
While Benchmark Education has been actively engaged with School Districts in Wyoming with some of the company's other programs, Scott Callender of Education Wyoming stated that "The introduction of Benchmark Literacy to Wyoming is absolutely perfect timing. Many of the School District directors we speak with are having a real challenge matching what they are currently using to the new Common Core State Standards. With Benchmark Literacy, the job of creating a curriculum to meet the Common Core is already done. More than that, schools that have started using it this year have already seen dramatic results."
While funding for school purchases is always an issue in Wyoming and other states, Benchmark Education offers each component of their literacy program as either a stand-alone purchase or a complete literacy program.
