Benton Farmers' Market to Open for Inaugural Season, June 1-July 27
Benton, Louisiana (PRWEB) April 28, 2014 -- Benton Farmers’ Market, a Sunday-only outdoor market held at 495 Simpson Street in downtown Benton, will open for its inaugural season, 12:30-5 p.m., on Sunday, June 1. The market will be held each Sunday afternoon through Sunday, July 27. Benton Farmers' Market is located off Highway 3 (Benton Road) in downtown Benton, Louisiana. It is easily accessible from Highway 3, Airline Drive/Palmetto Road and Highway 162. Benton Farmers' Market is an outside market and will take place "rain or shine,” unless there is a major storm producing flooding and/or lightning. The market’s mission is “to provide a viable, community-based market for the sale of high-quality, locally-grown produce; to promote gardening, farming and the production of food items and agricultural goods and to promote healthy lifestyles.” The Benton Farmers' Market is sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance.
“We have some great vendors who are coming from all around the Ark-La-Tex,” said Benton Farmers’ Market committee member Dawn Bushnell. “There’ll be local entertainment and lots of things for visitors to enjoy. We’re really excited about what this is going to do for the Town of Benton.”
The market will be the first event to make use of Benton’s new, 3.67-acre park. Parking and restroom facilities are available on-site. A children’s playground area, picnic tables and pavilion will also be available. Future plans for the park include an expanded playground area with “splash pads,” a walking track, barbecue pits and more.
Over 40 vendors have already signed up to sell produce, meats and seafood, dairy and eggs, honey, lunch foods and more during the market’s inaugural season, and additional vendors are currently being sought. Farmers, gardeners and producers who would like to sell homegrown produce or homemade products from Louisiana, southwestern Arkansas and northeastern Texas are encouraged to apply.
