Bernstein Liebhard LLP Notes Filing of New Mirena Lawsuit Alleging Spontaneous IUD Migration, other Complications
New York, NY (PRWEB) December 21, 2013 -- A couple in West Virginia filed a Mirena lawsuit (http://www.filemirenalawsuit.com/) this month alleging spontaneous device migration and other complications caused by the widely-used birth control IUD, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports.
Among other claims included in the suit, which was filed in the Circuit Court of Wyoming County on December 6th, plaintiffs say the implant was defectively designed by the manufacturer, Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Inc., who also failed to warn about its alleged potential to spontaneously migrate away from the uterine wall and cause complications. The plaintiff was implanted with the Mirena IUD in January 2012, according to her case, and allegedly discovered that the implant had migrated to other parts of her body months later. Court documents indicate that nearly 600 lawsuits involving this device have now been filed in the U.S. (Case No. 13-C-192)
“As we continue to speak with women who allegedly experienced complications stemming from the Mirena IUD, this case is of great interest to our Firm. The allegations put forth in this Mirena lawsuit echo those included in hundreds of others against Bayer,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices, including the Mirena IUD. The Firm is currently offering free and confidential case evaluations to individuals who may have sustained injuries stemming from this device.
Mirena Lawsuits
Approved as a contraceptive in 2000, the Mirena IUD has come under fire in recent years for its association with device dislocation, perforation, infection, ectopic pregnancy, vaginal scarring and other complications.* Court documents indicate that hundreds of women who allegedly experienced these problems have since come forward to file IUD lawsuits against its manufacturer, Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
According to court documents, a total of 300 claims seeking compensation for damages allegedly incurred by Mirena-related injuries are now pending in a consolidated litigation underway in New Jersey’s Bergen County Superior Court. This proceeding has scheduled its next status conference for January 14th, 2013. (In Re: Mirena Litigation; Case No. 297)
Additionally, hundreds of Mirena lawsuits have been filed at the federal court level. A Case List update issued December 16th by the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) indicates that 296 lawsuits alleging IUD complications have now been filed in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York.
If you experienced spontaneous migration of the IUD leading to uterine perforations and other serious injuries associated with this device, you may be entitled to compensation for damages.
