Best Family Beach Weekend Getaways: Chart a Course to Perdido Key Pirate Festival
Perdido Key, Fla. (PRWEB) August 06, 2015 -- Pirates of all ages will set sail for Perdido Key — Florida's "Lost Key" — Saturday, Sept. 19 for the third annual Perdido Key Pirate Fest—fittingly, on International Talk Like a Pirate Day.
Big Lagoon State Park, located at 12301 Gulf Beach Hwy., is the setting for the third annual Pirate Festival, sponsored by the Perdido Key Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center.
The revelry takes place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with good times and piratical mischief that includes live music, pirate games, storytelling, a live reptile show, food vendors, arts and crafts, magic tricks and a hunt for buried treasure.
Prizes for the family-friendly treasure hunt include condominium stays, jet-ski rentals, an Island Hopping Tour, beach portrait session, dining gift certificates and other booty. One lucky pirate will find the “Lost Key” which unlocks a treasure chest filled with all the trappings for a future family vacation on the Key, including gift certificates for lodging, food and attractions.
No weekend pirate invasion would be complete without a stop at the Perdido Key Visitor Center for a peek at the giant, 403-gallon pirate ship fish tank that was constructed for an episode of Animal Planet’s “TANKED”. The massive Man of War pirate ship, complete with sails and cannon, is truly one-of-a-kind.
Admission to the festival is included with $6 park entrance fee.
Organizers are taking care to be sure the park is not damaged. Each participate in the treasure hunt will be given a map outlining the boundaries of the hunting area. No coins will be buried; none will be hidden anywhere that park vegetation is damaged.
