Best Friends Animal Society Receives $60,000 Annenberg Foundation Grant for NKLA Initiative
(PRWEB) January 13, 2015 -- Best Friends Animal Society recently received a $60,000 grant in August from the Annenberg Foundation for use towards its NKLA (No Kill Los Angeles) initiative. Best Friends will use the funding to provide 750 cat spay/neuter surgeries, as well as 100 adoption subsidies to NKLA coalition partners, for a total impact of 850 animals by July 2015.
The grant was awarded for the collaborative nature of NKLA, a coalition of more than 70 animal welfare organizations that includes Los Angeles Animal Services working together to transform Los Angeles into the nation’s largest no-kill city by 2017.
“Best Friends is honored to receive a grant from Annenberg Foundation, which initially supported our efforts in L.A. by providing $100,000 in 2004 to fund a spay/neuter promotion in Los Angeles County and a volunteer coordinator position at Los Angeles Animal Services,” said Francis Battista, co-founder of Best Friends Animal Society. “We fully appreciate the prestige and significance of an Annenberg Foundation grant and are mindful of our accountability in putting this grant to its most effective use.”
Battista continued, “This grant will enable the NKLA coalition to make much needed inroads in providing spay/neuter services for low-income communities and provide financial support for our adoption partners.
