Best-Selling Author, Therapist and Founder of the PACT Institute Will Give a Keynote Address at 2015 Couples Conference
Los Angeles, California (PRWEB) April 17, 2015 -- Founder of the PACT Institute Stan Tatkin, PsyD, MFT, will serve as a keynote speaker at the Couples Conference from Friday, April 24, through Sunday, April 26, at the Marriott in Manhattan Beach, CA. Tatkin’s presentation and panel appearances at the conference will primarily examine how professionals can help couples become “secure-functioning” – a term he has coined after drawing from more than 30 years of research in neurobiology, arousal regulation, and infant attachment to describe a relationship based in mutuality, respect and sensitivity.
The Couples Conference is a three-day event open to professionals in health and mental health-related fields including physicians, psychologists, psychiatrists, therapists and social workers. The conference will provide professionals with engaging presentations and panel discussions with leaders in the couple and sex therapy world, as well as the opportunity to learn about emerging techniques and schools of thought in couple therapy.
Tatkin will deliver his keynote address, “Secure-Functioning: Therapeutic Stance for All Couple Therapists,” from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. on Friday, April 24, in the Marriot’s Manhattan Ballroom. The presentation will encourage counselors and therapists to introduce “secure-functioning” into their work with couples in a way that is attainable and enjoyable for couples and practitioners alike. Professionals who attend Tatkin’s presentation will learn how to list at least five characteristics of secure-functioning relationships, identify at least three intervention tactics to move couples toward secure functioning, and differentiate between secure attachment and a secure-functioning relationships.

Tatkin will also lead his own workshop during the conference, “Working with Disorganization in Couple Therapy: A PACT Perspective” from 3:45 to 5:45 p.m. on Friday, April 24, in Terrace Ballroom Salon B. The workshop examines the rules and goals for highly disorganized couples as told through the lens of attachment theory and neurobiological development. Workshop attendees will fine-tune their skills for understanding diagnostic markers for assessing disorganized states in relationship.
He will also take part in a panel, “Deepening Attachment and Connection,” with Harville Hendrix and Marion Solomon, from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. on Friday, April 24, in the Terrace Ballroom Salon B. Tatkin will be available for a “Meet the Authors’ Hour” book signing from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. on Friday, April 24, in the Manhattan Ballroom Foyer to autograph copies of his best-selling book Wired for Love.
