BET’s “Being Mary Jane” Star Richard Brooks’ Dishes on Working with Show Creator Mara Brock Akil and Season 2 on Maria Menounos’ Black Hollywood Live Network
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) February 17, 2014 -- (blackhollywoodlive.com) Actor Richard Brooks’ recently discussed his feelings about playing his current character Patrick Patterson on BET's successful first original scripted drama series “Being Mary Jane”. “This role is so fun and so good and so relatable…here it’s about the subtleties of life and the struggles we go through on a day to day basis. I relish it and I love being able to get in touch with that.”
During his interview with Maria Menounos' Black Hollywood Live Network, the 1st online entertainment network targeting African Americans, Brooks discussed working with show creator Mara Brock Akil and director Salim Akil. “They are just the best people in the world. To know them is to love them. They just have that energy. I think that’s what comes across with the cast in our work. It starts at the top, as they say.”
With the current success of season 1, fans of the show are already speculating on story lines for season 2...Brooks said “I hear that the second season is going to be even more crazy and amazing. Outrageous!”
When asked his opinion on the current state of black films..Brooks said “I would like to see more of the stories that are empowering to us, that take us out of any kind of victim state. I don’t know if we are victims anymore, I mean I think President Obama has shown we can do whatever. It’s a different world.”
