Bett 2016 visitors will be first to sign up for the EuroTalk Junior Language Challenge for primary schools
London (PRWEB UK) 20 January 2016 -- The Junior Language Challenge (JLC), which last year saw 1,100 children representing more than 60 schools across the UK, will open for early bird registration to Bett visitors on Wednesday 20th January - two months ahead of the official registration opening, and will be available throughout the show at EuroTalk’s stand (F388).
The JLC is an annual competition for children aged 10 and under. It takes place over three rounds, with the children learning a new language for each round, using the games in EuroTalk’s online software. At the 2015 final, 10-year-old Tudor Mendel-Idowu was crowned champion after learning Portuguese, Mandarin and Arabic, and received his prize from the winner of Channel 4’s Child Genius, Thomas Frith.
The competition also helps children develop other key skills besides language learning. Sarah Menegaz from Taverham Hall Prep School in Norwich, says: “The JLC is a fantastic opportunity – it promotes language learning, it helps children to develop their skills as independent learners, and it’s all for a good cause. We must never forget how privileged we are in this country and it’s important to make sure our children have an understanding that not everyone’s got the same chances that they have.”
EuroTalk’s chairman and JLC founder Richard Howeson says 2016 will be the biggest Junior Language Challenge yet:
“It’s the first time we’ve opened an early-bird registration and I hope teachers visiting Bett will be able to start thinking ahead of time about how JLC could work for their schools. We believe every child should discover that joy of learning languages. That’s why this year we want to double the number of children taking part so even more can benefit - and we can raise twice as much money for the fantastic charity that gets all of the entry fee money."
The JLC 2015 raised over £5,500 through entry fees for educational charity onebillion last year. The vital cash injection has helped pilot and spread the use of newly-customised solar-powered projectors to increase the number of pupils accessing onebillion’s unique maths and English-learning software tools.
Early bird registration for the Junior Language Challenge will be available throughout Bett on stand F388.
