Better Business Bureau Awarded Additional FINRA Grant
Southfield, MI (PRWEB) November 04, 2013 -- Better Business Bureau (BBB) Serving Detroit & Eastern Michigan announced today that it has been awarded a second round grant from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Investor Education Foundation to deliver educational training programs on fraud prevention for the communities in Eastern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. Due to the success of the BBB’s efforts in reaching their training goals of educating more than 400 consumers, FINRA has renewed funding for further outreach.
FINRA is the largest independent regulator for all securities firms doing business in the United States. Their mission is to protect America's investors by making sure the securities industry operates fairly and honestly. FINRA is collaborating with the Better Business Bureau to deliver educational training programs on fraud prevention in local markets throughout the United States.
During the initial round of the grant, the BBB provided numerous fraud prevention seminars to businesses, groups and organizations interested in educating their staff and members. Presentations have been delivered to groups such as the National Active & Retired Federal Employees Association, National Association of Women Business Owners, the Dickinson Chamber of Commerce, UAW locals, Jaycee organizations, Rotary groups and many more.

My organization is very appreciative that the BBB provides this program,” said Bonnie Hanes, executive director of Oakland Mediation Center. “We are a much wiser team thanks to this wonderful workshop and I can’t believe that every business wouldn’t want this knowledge for their staff.”
BBB plans to build on its recent success and will continue delivering a solid repertoire of FINRA educational events, provided by experienced BBB trainers. The seminars can be delivered to any group interested in learning how to protect their assets, including businesses, chambers of commerce, non-profit organizations, schools, senior centers, the general public and more.
Events are tailored to each audience however; in general, the seminars will give attendees a glimpse into the mind of a scam artist and will teach:
- The ‘Psychology’ of Scams
- Common Tactics used by Scammers
- Victim Demographic Trends and Key Risk Factors
- Persuasion Tactics of Scammers
- Assessment of participants’ Personal Risk Level
- How to Prevent Fraud and Protect Yourself and Your Family
