Bill Howe Plumbing in San Diego Welcomes First Female Job Corps Apprentice
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) September 30, 2015 -- Bill Howe Plumbing, one of the largest family-owned and operated companies has been training and supporting the finest San Diego plumbers for 35 years. Since beginning operations in 1980, the company has focused on education for all of their plumbers, and since opening new divisions in heating & air conditioning and restoration and flood services, have added to the training opportunities to all field employees.
In addition to providing opportunity to their own employees, Bill Howe supports a number of students and apprentices within company internships through San Diego Job Corps. San Diego Job Corps is part of the National Job Corps Organization. Locally, the Job Corps program offers students the skills necessary to succeed in a myriad of career paths. Bill Howe has been involved with the San Diego Job Corps for over ten years through mentorship programs, apprenticeships, and the opportunity for Job Corps students to ride along with real San Diego plumbers through their six week shadow program. Students learn all aspects of the trade from customer service, on the job training, plumbing and safety skills, as well as a broad picture of daily life for a plumber.
Since first connecting with San Diego Job Corps, Bill Howe has had hundreds of students pass through the company. Additionally, Bill Howe has hired several students for full time positions. Currently, four former Job Corps students work for the plumbing company in San Diego, one for the restoration division, and one in the HVAC department.
The most recent students participating in the six week apprenticeship are Amanda and Rah. They both love working with their hands and are intrigued by the plumbing trade. Although not the first female field employee at Bill Howe, Amanda is the first female Job Corps student to train with the company’s San Diego plumbers.
