Bio-Logic Aqua Research Celebrates 12th birthday of Nature’s Tears® EyeMist® with New EU patent
Grants Pass, OR (PRWEB) January 29, 2015 -- The all water personal eye mist product Nature’s Tears® EyeMist® was launched in the United States a dozen years ago by Bio-Logic Aqua Research, according to Chairman and fresh water advocate Sharon Kleyne. The launch followed a nationwide public relations campaign to educate Ophthalmologists and Optometrists about this new approach to dry eye. Building on the product’s domestic success, Bio-Logic Aqua Research has been acquiring international patents and licensees to take the product global. A major step was the recent award of a European Union patent.
Bio-Logic Aqua® Research is a global research and technology center founded by fresh water advocate Sharon Kleyne. The Center specializes in fresh water, the atmosphere and dehydration. The syndicated Sharon Kleyne Hour™ Power of Water® radio show, hosted by Kleyne, is heard weekly on VoiceAmerica and Apple iTunes. The education oriented show is sponsored by Nature’s Tears® EyeMist®, the Research Center’s signature product for dry and dehydrated eyes.
The next Sharon Kleyne Hour™ Power of Water® radio show airs on February 2, 2015 at 10 a.m. PST. For the live broadcast, or podcasts of past shows, go to http://www.voiceamerica.com/show/2207/the-sharon-kleyne-hour.
In an era of increasing drought and climate change, the incidence of environmentally caused dry eye is becoming a global health crisis. Dry eye symptoms are now the number one reason for eye doctor visits in the United States. Nature’s Tears® EyeMist®, Kleyne explains, is a breakthrough technology for dry eyes in the form of a “personal portable hand-held humidifying device.”
The surface of the eye is 99 percent water, according to Kleyne. A loss of only two percent can trigger dry eye symptoms. Severe or chronic dry eye can lead to corneal ulcers and visual impairment. High risk environments for dry eye include cold weather, wind, hot dry weather, polluted air (indoor and outdoor), stagnant air, indoor forced air heating and cooling, insulated walls and windows, airline cabins, crowded areas, and certain occupations. The majority of individuals who operate computers more than two hours a day experience dry eye symptoms.
Kleyne’s message to eye care professionals is that since dry eye is caused by a loss of water content in the ocular tear film, the first step prior to treatment should be to supplement the lost water. While numerous situations can cause the tear film to lose water to evaporation, under the right conditions, the tear film can also absorb water vapor directly from the air. Nature’s Tears® EyeMist® mimics natural humidity by creating an envelope of moist fresh air around the eyes and face.
Nature’s Tears® EyeMist®, says Kleyne, “will empower everyone in the world, whether they live in Chicago, Egypt, China's industrial heartland or a remote village in Kenya, to carry clean, moist, all-natural, unpolluted, 100% safe humidity in their pocket or purse, and to easily apply it to dry, dehydrated and uncomfortable eyes any time they choose.”
In the United States and Canada, Nature’s Tear EyeMist is available in selected retail stores, thousands of Ophthalmology and Optometry offices, and online at Amazon.com, drugstore.com and http://www.naturestears.com.
The initial United States patent was awarded in April 2009. In addition to the EU patent, applicable to every European Union country, the Research Center holds numerous patents worldwide. They have a patent pending and utility model in China. The goal is global market penetration through regional licensing, with emphasis on countries most at risk for eye dehydration and dry eye due to air pollution, dry air, high solar radiation, extended drought or an inadequate or unsafe drinking water supply.
Kleyne recommends drinking eight to ten glasses of water every day as the best way to make sure the eyes receive sufficient water.
