Bloomington, IN (PRWEB) May 27, 2014 -- BioConvergence presented “5 Steps to Reduce Temperature Excursions for Pharmaceutical Products” during its first webinar earlier this month. The topic was based on a case study developed and presented by team members Désirée Valentine and Travis Hudson.

This webinar is the first of a series of webinars to come from BioConvergence. Each webinar is designed to provide attendees with information and tools that promote process improvement and contribute to upholding the integrity of the pharmaceutical supply chain.

Small changes to processes can make a big difference, especially when considering temperature sensitive pharmaceutical products and the downstream supply chain impacts to patients.

“Our goal was to share how this project was valuable to our processes and how other organizations could easily implement the same steps to improve their excursion rates as well. Small changes to processes can make a big difference, especially when considering temperature sensitive pharmaceutical products and the downstream supply chain impacts to patients,” stated Valentine, Senior Business Alliance Manager at BioConvergence.

The presentation featured in the May webinar included these five steps to improve excursion rates:

• Create clear expectations for both parties through Quality Agreements
• Capture better information through controls and tools
• Track comprehensive vendor and internal metrics to identify key partnerships
• Improve internal knowledge to leverage vendor processes
• Acquire appropriate shipping materials to extend the qualification period and improve handling.

Hudson, an Associate Process Engineer at BioConvergence, explained, “Changing our processes and following these steps made some significant differences at BioConvergence. We yielded a 99.7 percent excursion-free rate, decreased the average days in transit by over one day per shipment, improved coordination internally and externally, and reinforced a process for continual improvement.”
