BioReference Laboratories Gives $50,000 to ASCP Foundation to Advance Lab Medicine
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) September 07, 2017 -- The ASCP Foundation is dedicated to promoting the value of the medical laboratory to patients, payors, government and other healthcare professionals. BioReference Laboratories showed the Foundation’s mission a significant gesture of support through a $50,000 gift, which was announced during the Grand Opening General Session at the ASCP 2017 Annual Meeting, held Sept. 6-8, in Chicago.
“We are very excited about the opportunities this gift will provide,” said ASCP CEO E. Blair Holladay, PhD, SCT (ASCP)CM. “This is the single largest gift to the ASCP Foundation since it was launched last spring. BioReference Laboratories’ gift will enable us to tell the story of the medical laboratory.”
“Members of the medical laboratory are the hidden professionals of health care, and it is time for that to change,” Dr. Holladay continued. “The ASCP Foundation wants to ensure that pathologists’ and medical laboratory professionals’ work is well understood, recognized and valued by their colleagues, insurers, government and the public.”
Details of the partnership with BioReference Laboratories will be shared over the next few months.
BioReference Laboratories, based in Elmwood Park, New Jersey, is a wholly owned subsidiary of OPKO Health, Inc., a multi-national pharmaceutical and diagnostic company. BioReference Laboratories is the third largest full-service clinical diagnostic laboratory in the U.S., providing testing and related services to physician offices, clinics, hospitals, long-term care facilities, employers, governmental units and correctional institutions. It offers a comprehensive test list focusing on molecular diagnostics, anatomical pathology, genetics and women’s health. Through its GeneDx subsidiary, BioReference Laboratories has an international presence in more than 50 countries around the world.
“Diagnostics are the foundation of health care. Without laboratory medicine, clinicians would not know how to treat disease, or even what disease they are treating,” said Gregory S. Henderson, MD, PhD, FASCP, President of BioReference Laboratories. “BioReference Laboratories is proud to support the ASCP Foundation’s efforts to spread awareness of the contribution pathologists and laboratory professionals make to ensuring safe, effective patient care.”
The ASCP Foundation provides pathologists and medical laboratory professionals with a way to advance diagnostic medicine and public health across the globe. The Foundation is focused on making a difference in three critical areas: providing scholarships, improving global health and increasing laboratory visibility.
