Bird Rock Coffee Roasters Wins Three Medals in North American Competition
(PRWEB) September 28, 2016 -- Bird Rock Coffee Roasters announced today that they received three medals in a North American competition for best coffee roasting practices. They won the silver medal for the pour over filter category with their Kenyan Thageini, a silver medal in the espresso category with their Autumn Blend, and a bronze medal in the organic espresso category with their Divine Droplets II roast. The awards were given at the Compak Golden Bean Roasters Competition last week, which involves three days of judging and blind tasting, and results in awards in nine categories.
The Kenyan Thageini has now garnered two awards this year, including the highest score (96 out of 100) for a Kenyan coffee in Coffee Review on the west coast. In this review, the Kenyan Thageini was noted as, “levitating…flawless structure and extraordinary aromatics, lushly tropical, yet elegantly pure.”
“It has been an incredible year of recognition for the taste and quality of our coffee, our direct trade practices and the unique place we hold in the newly established San Diego coffee arena,” said Chuck Patton, owner of Bird Rock Coffee Roasters. “As we celebrate international coffee day, we want our customers to know more about the taste, quality, and origin of these rare and exceptional coffees from different parts of the globe, many of which we directly trade with the farms.”
Bird Rock Coffee Roasters also received high marks in August on their Indonesian Sumatra Tano Batak (score of 94 points), and El Salvador Finca Loma La Gloria (score of 91 points) a direct trade relationship and an exclusive lot to Bird Rock Coffee Roasters. In April, the Panama La Esmeralda Bosque Geisha, a rare and expensive varietal scored 95 points and was recognized as San Diego’s most expensive cup of coffee at $11 per cup. Bird Rock Coffee Roaster’s Geisha was also the coffee recognized in the national Good Food Awards that Bird Rock received in January of this year.
For international coffee day on September 29, 2016, Bird Rock Coffee Roasters will have three of these award-winners available for purchase, and the Geisha (the Noria lot) is only available as supplies last. The coffees are priced as follows: Indonesian Sumatra: Tano Batak is $20.99 for 12oz, the El Salvador: Loma La Gloria is $18.99 for 12oz, the Panama La Esmeralda Noria Geisha, is $50 for 8oz and the Kenyan Thageini is $20.99 for 12oz.
