Pasadena, CA (PRWEB) September 11, 2013 -- Bitingduck Press is proud to announce that all the print titles on the Bitingduck Press and Boson Books imprints will be included in Amazon's "Matchbook" program when it launches on October 1, 2013.
Boson Books has been at the forefront of eBook distribution since it began publishing electronic books in 1994- a year before Amazon was founded. The Amazon Matchbook program supports the Bitingduck Press/Boson Books principle that readers should have the flexibility to read their books in the formats they want, and switch among formats as convenient.
All of the more than 40 of the 150 Bitingduck Press/Boson Books currently available in print editions will be included in the Matchbook program. Boson Books titles that are distributed on Amazon with digital rights management enabled will include free eBook editions. All DRM-free eBook titles on Boson Books and Bitingduck Press will be priced at $0.99 for the Matchbook edition. All Boson Books and Bitingduck Press eBook titles are available DRM-free in multiple formats at the Bitingduck Press webstore.
Apart from the obvious cross-platform advantages of MatchBook, there are other ways in which a joint print/electronic purchase can benefit the reader and complement the reading experience. Color, often not available in print, is unrestricted on color e-readers, so color images may be placed into an e-book at high resolution, allowing the reader to zoom in. Interactive features, such as quizzes, or features such as multimedia may also be included in electronic versions to supplement the print book. For example, one of Bitingduck's upcoming Young Adult titles, "School" (Hunter Gardner) contains original music soundtracks in its electronic version.
Founded in 2012 by two physicists, Bitingduck Press aims to carry forward the spirit of innovation that led the creators of Boson to launch e-books long before Amazon, while the World Wide Web was still in its infancy. Dubbing itself the “World’s Greenest Press”, Bitingduck believes that books should serve local businesses and the environment as well as readers. E-books are environmentally friendly, but usually not sold in local stores. Bitingduck is changing this with a program called WebBytez, where cards linked to downloadable books can be sold in any store, giving the store the same share of credit as for the sale of a print book.
Authors wishing to submit to Bitingduck Press should consult the guidelines on the website and submit electronic material only. Featured themes for 2015 are Young Adult Sci-Fi and Hard Sci-Fi. The press also has positions for interns and welcomes CVs from freelance editors, especially those skilled in interior layout.
