Redmond, WA (PRWEB) February 22, 2016 -- For the past several years the Blind Judo Foundation has been very fortunate to have fellow Judoka (Judo athletes) like Sensei’s Walter Dean, Gary Goltz and others willing to volunteer their time and talent to impart years of training and dedication to those individuals with various disabilities at the DisAbility Sports Festival events in Southern California.
On Saturday, January 30, 2016 Judo was introduced to new and returning attendees of the Coachella Valley Disability Sports Festival with various physical and developmental disabilities. The sport of Judo is a confidence building sport regardless of any disability for all who step onto the tatami (Judo mat) under experienced coaching.
One might not think Judo would be appropriate for individuals with various disabilities. “This couldn’t be farther from the truth” says Ron C. Peck, Co-Founder of the Blind Judo Foundation. Peck continues saying “a select few blind and visually impaired Judoka actually compete on the world stage at the Paralympics.” Judo will once again be featured at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
One Judoka who attended the recent Disability Sports Festival is Edgar Cabachuela, a blind athlete who has been training in the sport of Judo for over a year now. One of his goals is to become a candidate for the 2020 US Paralympic Judo Team representing the USA in Japan. Edgar realizes it takes dedication, commitment and hard work to be able to represent one’s country at the Paralympics and is willing to sacrifice to realize his dream.
Consider an introduction, training and exposure to the life enhancing and empowering sport of Judo. You will not be disappointed.
