Block Parties Will Show Love For Neighbors on August 16
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (PRWEB) August 05, 2015 -- An evening of fun with neighbors will also be a time to establish a network of love and care in Chillicothe. Three United Methodist churches are hosting free block parties on August 16 from 4-7 p.m., inviting the community to connect with each other to build a stronger city.
The three United Methodist churches will hold simultaneous block party events, offering food for guests; there will also be giveaways, bounce houses, door prizes, games, music, and fellowship.
The community is invited to participate in the block party at any location:
- Tyler Memorial United Methodist Church at 260 Mill Street.
- Walnut Street United Methodist Church, at 16 South Walnut Street, will also be distributing groceries to neighbors in need.
- Trinity United Methodist Church, at 24 South Mulberry Street, will also be giving away used furniture, diapers, and baby formula.
Rev. Lori Lossie, pastor of Walnut Street United Methodist Church, said, “The United Methodist churches in Chillicothe are seeking to build a stronger city by loving our neighbors, one person at a time.”
Event organizers anticipate that more than 1,500 people will attend. Volunteers are needed to support the various activities; further details and online registration is available at http://www.strongerchillicothe.org.
Members of the three churches have been meeting weekly to prepare for the block parties. “Our church members have been participating in prayer walks throughout the community, praying over every street. Our block parties will be a further extension of our love for our neighbors, inviting the city to love each other through fellowship and outreach,” said Rev. Lossie.
Stronger Chillicothe is funded in part by a Rethink Church Event Grant from United Methodist Communications’ Rethink Church initiative as a way to give local United Methodist churches a chance to make a difference in the world. However, participants do not have to be affiliated with The United Methodist Church – or any church – to participate.
