BlogStart.com Interviewed An Egyptian Repairman Who Unintentionally Outranked Google and Became An Internet Sensation
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 09, 2015 -- For almost two weeks now, Mr. Saber el-Toony, an Egyptian repairman, has been ranking #1 when you search for the keyword "Google" on Google.com.eg from any Egyptian IP address.
Mr. Saber received more than 6 million visits to his page till now. Eyad Nour, a digital marketing expert and Founder of BlogStart.com, was the first to report this incident. He investigated the technical side and published his findings on Medium. He even interviewed Mr. Saber who said that he didn't know he was ranking and was just confused because of all the calls he receives every day from people finding him on Google.
Nour's story went viral and received more than 100,000 visits in a couple of days. Because of this mass exposure, Mr. Saber turned to an internet sensation and was featured in more than 200 media outlets in the last three days including BBC.
According to Nour, the reason of this high ranking spot is that Mr. Saber entered a Google search results page for his name in the website field on his Google+ profile and this confused Google's algorithm to think that his page is somehow related to Google itself.
Someone who works for Google tweeted that this was "an experimental algorithm that went wrong."
Google fixed this issue few days ago, but Mr. Saber managed to outrank Google again when he entered the same page as the website associated with his Google+ page and he is still ranking till now.
