Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) July 31, 2017 -- The IT industry added 9,300 jobs in June, according to preliminary numbers released by the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Economic Situation Report on Friday, July 7, 2017.
“Employment gains slowed down slightly in June, dropping by 1,100 from the 10,400 jobs gained in May,” said Jay Rollins, owner of ITJobsWeb.com, a leading IT jobs website. “The difference in employment is primarily due to fewer gains occurring within Management and Technical Consultant services.”
Collectively, the four main sectors that form the IT industry now employ 4,840,600 persons. This includes information from the Data Processing, Hosting and Related Services subsector, the Computer Electronic Product Manufacturing subsector, the Computer Systems Design and Related Services subsector, and the Management and Technical Consulting Services subsector.
“The IT industry has added 133,000 jobs over the last 12 months, despite routine losses in Computer Electronic Manufacturing,” said Rollins.
Management and Technical Consulting Services only gained 2,500 jobs in June after adding 5,300 in May. The subsector now sits at 1,440,800 employed persons, up 72,400 since June of last year.
Data Processing and Hosting added 900 jobs in both June and May and now employs 303,200 individuals. The subsector has added only 2,800 jobs over the last year.
Computer Electronic Manufacturing subsector grew by 1,000 jobs in June after having lost 1,200 jobs in May. The subsector now employs 1,037,300 persons. “Over the last year, Computer Manufacturing has lost 13,100 jobs,” said Rollins. This sector employs Computer hardware engineers, Semiconductor processors, and electrical engineers and technicians.”
Computer Systems Design and Related Services gained 4,900 jobs in June and now employs 2,059,300 persons.
