Boardwalk Empire: The Academy of Responsible Tattooing Expands its Jersey City Shop
Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) February 26, 2015 -- The Academy of Responsible Tattooing, an art school for tattooing, has expanded its territory as it spreads its ink across Jersey City.
The Academy has taken over a rival tattoo studio that was situated next door. After years of hard work and dedicated training, the Academy became so popular that the neighboring studio closed up shop, leaving the Academy to take over the empty space.
The Academy of Responsible Tattooing, situated on Jersey Avenue, opened its new doors on January 14, 2015 after having signed the lease on December 1. The latest expansion will include three tattooing stations, a furnished waiting area, and large bay windows.
"It's a corner shop with massive, fishbowl windows that allow people on the street to stop and look in to see the kind of work we are doing inside," said Oksana Weber, Tattoo Artist and Manager of the Jersey City location.
Since opening its doors in 2002, the Academy of Responsible Tattooing has done phenomenally well, training hundreds of tattoo and body piercing artists as well as expanding its business -- and not just in Jersey City. The academy has shops in Jersey City, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles.
Weber says the expansion in Jersey City was due to the business's growing popularity that simply required more space.
"We have a lot of graduates and we're expecting even more to come in to fill up the space we have in both the old and new shop," she said.
The new apprentices will train in the old shop and, depending on how they do, they may be invited to move into the new space.
"We're still working to make [the place] better," she said, "but at least it's up and running and we've noticed an influx of customers and income as a result of the expansion."
The influx is most likely due to customers from the old tattoo studio who need a new place to ink up. The studio has three full-time tattoo artists and many more part-time/apprentice artists.
Weber is delighted with the new acquisition. She attributes the success to the academy's innovative approach to "tattoo culture," which includes having a friendly, professional, well-trained staff.
"I feel like this move has made the shop more legitimate," she said. "We now have five shops -- not just one. In the coming months we hope to have another tattoo shop down the street."
