Bode Technology Sponsors Houston Forensic Science Center Event

(Bode), a leading provider of forensic services that recently completed DNA testing for more than 5,000 untested sexual assault kits for the city of Houston, is co-sponsoring Houston Forensic Science Center’s event tonight. This presentation of the story of DNA from a legal and genetics perspective in Houston, featuring Dr. C. Thomas Caskey and Attorney Rusty Hardin highlights the first forensic DNA case tried in court in Texas and is being held in conjunction with National Forensic Science Week.
Dr. Caskey was the inventor on a patent for DNA typing using the STR identification technique that has become the gold standard for DNA testing in criminal cases. Rusty Hardin, who relied on Dr. Caskey as a key witness, was the prosecutor for the first case brought to trial using DNA technology.

The city of Houston recently announced that they have successfully eliminated a backlog of more than 10,000 untested sexual assault kits. Their victim-centric approach created a collaborative team who ensured the kits were tested and the results were investigated, and now see to the prosecution of these cases in an effort to continue prioritizing the well-being of assault survivors.
Currently, there are an estimated 400,000 untested kits in crime laboratories and police departments across the country. Bode is working hard to support the efforts of those communities where backlogs have been identified.
