Bosse Tools Teams with the American Heart Association to Shovel Smarter And Lighten The Load on Your Heart This Winter
Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) December 02, 2015 -- Bosse Tools, a revolutionary company reinventing hardware tools and transforming the construction, utilities, and DIY industries, announced today that it is teaming with the American Heart Association (AHA) to help people shovel smarter and lighten the load on their hearts this winter.
In honor of their tireless commitment to build healthier lives free of cardiovascular disease and stroke, Bosse Tools is donating $2,000, which equates to $5 for each of the first 400 snow shovels sold through Amazon.com during the upcoming holiday promotion.
“I am especially passionate about this because I have personally been affected by a cardiovascular ailment, and am even more inspired by AHA’s continued research,” said Stephen Walden, CEO. “We support their educational efforts on precautions to take while snow shoveling, and are excited to be united with this top organization in saving lives.”
According to the American Journal for Emergency Medicine, roughly 11,500 individuals are hospitalized each year as a result of shoveling snow. The main cause of hospitalization is a back injury, and the main cause of death is a heart attack.
Fortunately, Bosse's entire line of ergonomic shovels make shoveling easier according to research conducted by various bio-mechanical research facilities. A recent University of Wisconsin-Madison study found that 75% of the participants had a lower heart rate when shoveling with a Bosse shovel. Reducing musculoskeletal injury and risk of heart attack are the two main benefits of a Bosse shovel over a traditional snow shovel.
According to AHA, many people aren't conditioned to the physical stress of vigorous outdoor activities and aren’t aware of the potential dangers of being outdoors in cold weather. “The combination of colder temperatures and physical exertion increases the workload on the heart. People who are outdoors in cold weather should avoid sudden exertion, like lifting a heavy shovel full of snow,” says a recent article on AHA’s website, heart.org.
Preliminary research conducted by Arizona State University and Noraxon’s Evidence Based Biomechanics Lab shows that Bosse Tools’ shovels significantly decreases back compression and improves wrist posture. In addition, the research shows reduced back muscle exertion, and even lower user heart rates when compared to traditional shovels.
“To be quite honest, I looked at the shovel the first time and said ‘no way does it make shoveling any easier!’ But once I was starting to use it, I was quite surprised at how quickly I noticed the difference when I was clearing out the first snow fall this year,” says John Rovey of Denver, CO. Walden says this response is typical, specifically that “most folks are sold the minute they pick it up and realize how much better it actually feels while you work.” For more tips on safe snow shoveling go to heart.org. Though still a young company, Bosse Tools has already garnered national attention. The Bosse shovel was featured on Popular Science’s “10 Best Things” list in the magazine’s February 2014 issue, and stories about the company have appeared in nearly 50 media outlets, including the Daily Mail, USA Today, Fast Company Design, the Arizona Republic and the Phoenix Business Journal. Capitalizing on the media buzz, in 2013 Walden conducted a highly successful crowd funding campaign on Kickstarter, raising more than $64,000 for the company.
