Boston-Based Sigma Prime Ventures Announces Jay Batson as Sigma Prime Fellow
Boston, MA (PRWEB) October 05, 2016 -- Sigma Prime Ventures, a leading early stage technology venture capital firm, today announced that Jay Batson has formally become associated with the firm as a Sigma Prime Fellow. The Sigma Prime Fellows Program brings on board unique individuals in the Boston area who could become founders of new technology ventures, or who are significant contributors to a company within the Sigma portfolio or to the East Coast start-up ecosystem in general. Fellows work with the Sigma Investment Team examining new business ideas and start-ups, helping with investment diligence, assisting existing Sigma portfolio companies, and generally helping Sigma support the Boston technology start-up community.
John Simon, Managing Director, commented, “The Sigma Prime Fellows Program has been a win-win-win program all around. Jay is a passionate, committed, creative, and successful entrepreneur who wants to ‘give back’ and help the next generation of entrepreneurs be successful. With all the growth we’ve seen this year in our investing and in our companies we are so glad to have Jay on board as a Sigma Prime Fellow.”
Jay has been focused on building early-stage technology product companies for 30+ years. Having worked in or started six (four venture-backed) startups, Jay has built teams and products for markets ranging from networking hardware to enterprise software. In 2007, he was the founding CEO of Acquia, a Sigma portfolio company which now employs over 750 employees in offices around the globe. Recently Jay has become an active Boston angel investor. He is closely involved with both TechStars and MassChallenge, and has directly worked with 50-75 startups each year for these organizations beginning in 2013.
“Since Acquia's beginnings, when they became one of my two primary investors, the team at Sigma has repeatedly demonstrated their integrity, skill and willingness to invest time and money to back quality teams building great companies,” Jay said. “I am very pleased to be a part of the Sigma Prime Fellows Program to help Sigma do these same things for more companies."
Sigma Prime Ventures is a leading technology venture capital firm based on the East Coast. The Managing Directors of Sigma Prime have been investing in early stage technology companies since 1984, and have consistently outperformed the market.
