Boston Car Accident Attorney Mark E. Salomone Comments on Report About Anti-Texting Smartphone ‘Apps’
Boston, MA (PRWEB) December 24, 2013 -- The development of in-car smart phone applications designed to curb texting and driving could be an important step in preventing car crashes across Massachusetts, according to Mark E Salomone of The Law Offices of Mark E. Salomone, a car accident lawyer in Boston.
The Boston Globe (“Apps try to monitor, tame texting drivers,” December 9) reported that app-makers have begun to develop smartphone applications designed to prevent drivers from texting and driving, promote safe driving habits, and even reward drivers for avoiding their phones while behind the wheel.
“The easiest way to avoid a texting and driving car crash in Boston, Worcester, or anywhere else in Massachusetts is to simply turn your phone off. But with the popularity and widespread use of smartphones, this is easier said than done for many drivers,” said Salomone. “That’s why it has become increasingly important to develop technology – right on these phones – that can actively work to reduce the risk of accident.”
According to the Boston Globe, anti-texting “apps” are designed to prevent texting and driving in a few different ways. Some applications transform phones into advice-giving driving coaches, while others report texting teenage drivers to their parents or insurance companies or even block text messages altogether, the article said.
The Boston Globe said that one such application, called “Road Wars,” debuted in November. According to the article, drivers are awarded virtual coins for following speed limits and avoiding texting. Drivers could then compete against each other on Facebook and other social media platforms to obtain the highest score.
“With more and more of these ‘app’ manufacturers embracing the idea that smart phones can be used as a crash deterrent device, our firm hopes that anti-texting technology is embraced and used to prevent texting accidents in Massachusetts,” said Salomone, a car accident lawyer in Boston. “Accidents caused by texting drivers could have serious long-term physical, emotional, and legal consequences. Victims should not suffer without compensation. Attorneys can help victims and families pursue the compensation and closure they need.”
