Boston’s Millennium Tower to Install Structural Thermal Breaks
Princeton, NJ (PRWEB) August 02, 2015 -- Luxurious condo-and-retailer tower in Downtown Crossings will incorporate Schöck Isokorb® structural thermal breaks in the Millennium Tower terraces at the penthouse levels, with completion expected by summer of 2016.
The $680 million tower currently has 442 units for sale with prices starting at $850,000. The slender structure will contain 1.1 million square feet, with over 200,000 sq. ft. of retail space at the base of the tower and will open onto Downtown Crossing and ascend to the 4th floor.
Upon completion in 2016, the 13,000 square foot penthouse will be listed with a price tag of $37.5 Million making the condo the most expensive sale in Boston to date. Designer, Blake Middleton, FAIA of Handel Architects describes it as a, “gem in a gem of a city,” and points out the incredible views of the Charles River and Boston Harbor.
The Millennium Tower design team was able to overcome concerns of thermal bridging with Schöck Isokorb® at the concrete balcony of the terraces. Thermal bridging is a common phenomenon that occurs in concrete balconies and can lead to a significant loss in energy efficiency.
Schöck Isokorb® provides insulation from the outdoors by breaking the thermal bridge. This ensures higher surface temperatures inside, avoiding condensation and mold which can lead to serious building deterioration and additional costs for renovation. The innovative product eliminates the cold surface temperatures in buildings and increases a buildings energy efficiency and longevity.
The structural thermal breaks will be installed in the Millennium Tower terraces of the penthouse levels 51 and 52 in early August.
