Botticelli Urges Consumers to “Make the Switch” from Butter to Olive Oil for National Heart Month
Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) January 30, 2014 -- February is full of candy hearts, paper hearts and chocolate hearts, but what about healthy hearts? Botticelli is making the latter an integral part of National Heart Month by touting the benefits of olive oil over butter and margarine and asking consumers to “Make the Switch.”
For the month of February, Botticelli is inviting consumers to post on its Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/pages/Botticelli-Olive-Oil/97042193734?ref=hl, describing how they made the switch from butter to olive oil. Every week, one fan will be randomly selected to receive complimentary Botticelli products.
“Olive oil is one of the best sources of monounsaturated fatty acids, a type of fat shown to improve cholesterol levels,” said Salvatore Asaro, President of Botticelli-Foods. Used commonly for frying, sautéing and baking, olive oil contains nearly three times as much monounsaturated or “good” fats per tablespoon as butter, margarine and other popular cooking oils, making it a heart-healthy alternative.
“One of the easiest ways to improve heart health is with a balanced diet,” said Asaro. “The problem is, not everyone knows just how easy it can be to eat healthy.”
Research from the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition shows that consuming two tablespoons of olive oil each day reduces the chances of dying from heart disease by nearly 50 percent. The equivalent of one tablespoon cuts the risk by about 28 percent. “That’s as simple as substituting olive oil for salad dressing or drizzling it on a bag of popcorn instead of butter,” added Asaro.
In addition to eating a balanced diet, the Center for Disease Control suggests maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly and limiting alcohol consumption to improve heart health.
