Bozzuto Announces Partnership with EPA Energy Star Program
Greenbelt, MD (PRWEB) July 07, 2016 -- Bozzuto announced today their partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ENERGY STAR® Program to help lead the energy efficiency movement by helping thousands of individuals, families, and businesses save energy while reducing their impact on the environment.
Through its voluntary partnership with the ENERGY STAR Program, Bozzuto will work to improve energy efficiency and fight climate change through a strategic, corporate energy management, education and awareness program that will help preserve the environment for future generations.
This commitment is proven through the work on two Bozzuto apartment communities, 7th Flats, in Washington, D.C.’s legendary Shaw neighborhood, and The Loree Grand at Union Place, in the District’s NoMa neighborhood. Both communities earned the EPA’s ENERGY STAR® certification, which signifies that the buildings perform better than 75 percent of similar communities nationwide for energy efficiency and meet strict energy efficiency performance levels set by the EPA. ENERGY STAR measures the energy usage of the entire building, including every apartment, all common areas, retail spaces, and garage. The certification weighs both the design of the building as well operational efficiency. Both properties maintain strict utility management of vacant units and low-traffic common areas. In conjunction with the EPA, Bozzuto has developed sustainability guidelines that address best practices for energy and water usage and education and engagement for site staff and residents.
According to the EPA, across the United States, 86 multifamily properties have earned ENERGY STAR certification since it became available in 2014. In Washington, D.C., only seven multifamily properties have been certified as ENERGY STAR, including two Bozzuto managed communities – 7th Flats and The Loree Grand.

ENERGY STAR was introduced by EPA in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency. Today, the ENERGY STAR label can be found on more than 60 different kinds of products as well as new homes and commercial and industrial buildings that meet strict energy-efficiency specifications set by the EPA. Over the past twenty years, American families and businesses have saved a total of nearly $230 billion on utility bills and prevented more than 1.7 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions with help from ENERGY STAR.
