Branches Inc. Celebrates another Successful Summer Shade Camp
Miami, FL (PRWEB) August 29, 2016 -- As summer comes to an end, Branches celebrates another successful Summer Shade Camp. Branches Summer Shade Camp is a free summer camp program for elementary, middle, and high school students. Summer Shade Camp focuses on creative learning but also offers enriching activities like arts & crafts, sports, exciting field trips and much more.
The program takes place at all four Branches Grow & Climb sites: Branches Florida City, Branches South Miami, Branches Lakeview and Branches Fulford. In 2016, Summer Shade camp operated for 6 weeks from June 20- July 27, 2016 and served over 400 children and youth across all four sites.
Summer Shade focuses on learning in order to help prevent summer learning loss, often related with the long summer break. The children and youth who attended Summer Shade Camp continued to read and learn every day during the summer so they were ready for the next grade level in school this Fall. Many parents are often unable to provide such academic support over the summer since they have to continue working, or simply do not have the language skills or education to guide their children.
In addition to serving over 400 children, Branches also hires 40 Summer Shade Guides, who are Branches program youth hired as camp counselors to help with the programming and to manage many camp activities. This summer employment opportunity allows our youth to learn useful skills such as time management, organizational skills, teamwork dynamics, earn some money and much more.
Branches is a local non-profit organization based in Miami and primarily focuses on student services and financial stability. Its Grow Program serves elementary students, preparing them for lifelong success through enrichment of their minds, bodies and hearts. The Climb Program serves middle and high school students, focusing on the development of their individual assets in order to maximize opportunities to become better students and better people. Branches’ Achieve Programs target the well-being of the entire community through services fostering financial stability and long term success. Services include the ASSETS small business solutions program, the Ways to Work car loan program for working families, free VITA tax preparation and hunger relief. Branches is also proud to house and operate the United Way Center for Financial Stability (UWCFS).
