Brandman University Hosts an Innovative Conference for California Educators, Parents
Modesto, CA (PRWEB) September 11, 2013 -- Brandman University, part of the Chapman University System, will be hosting Innovate Education 2013, a one-day conference that will cover important topics that impact California school systems. The event will be held on Saturday, October 5th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the West Campus of Modesto Junior College, one of Brandman’s community partners.
“Brandman has been at the forefront of achievement-focused learning techniques for more than five decades and Innovate Education represents a prime example of our commitment to offer proactive strategies for keeping California in a leadership position,” said Ram Singh, vice chancellor for marketing and communications.
Innovate Education 2013 brings together international, national and regional thought leaders to discuss effective Common Core implementation, creativity in the classroom, best practices in pedagogical techniques and more. The event is for educators, administrators, civic leaders and engaged parents from Central Valley counties including San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Merced, Amador, Calaveras and Tuolumne.
Among the presenters will be Dr. Yong Zhao, who currently serves as the Presidential Chair and Associate Dean for Global Education in the College of Education, University of Oregon. His work focuses on the implications of globalization and technology and education. Dr. Yhao has also designed schools that promote global competence, developed computer games for language learning and founded research and development institutions to explore innovation education models.
In addition, Donna Porter has been recognized as one of the "Ten Most Inspirational" teachers in the country at the Kennedy Center in 2012. Her work has included applying innovative techniques to create effective and empathetic learning environments for students from diverse and challenging backgrounds. She will introduce Dewayne "DJ" Batiste, a former at-risk youth who turned his life around with the help of education during her workshop "From Punishment to Empowerment—Conscious Discipline."
Other seminars will dive into alternative concepts such as the changing paradigms of implementing Common Core standards, responses to intervention, technology integration, and professional learning communities among others.
“This is a very exciting and unique opportunity to discuss and exchange the ideas we can implement today that will help us build up 21st century learners,” says, Niki V. Santo, Director at the Brandman Modesto Campus. “For too long, the popular discourse around public education has had a negative, failure-focused tone. This conference is about success and how to succeed, and tools that educators can take and use to enhance their classrooms and schools the following Monday.”
Brandman University’s School of Education provides degree, authorization and credential programs that develop influential teachers and transformational leaders. Innovate Education 2013 supports this mission by promoting change, invention and growth within school systems. Community members are given the opportunity to network and share best practices with one another. As an added benefit Brandman University’s School of Extended Education will offer professional development units for attending the conference.
Registration is now open. Individual and group rates are available on the event’s website at http://www.innovate-education.com. Local companies and organizations can also participate in the event by partnering with Brandman University to become sponsors.
