Brandon Hall Group Report Examines How to Overcome Barriers to More Women Leaders in the C-Suite
Delray Beach, FL (PRWEB) September 28, 2016 -- A new report by Brandon Hall Group, based on an extensive survey and interviews with seasoned women leaders from around the world, provides fresh insights to the reality of gender inequality in senior corporate leadership.
The report, Women in Leadership and Gender Parity: Is Change Happening Fast Enough?, by Brandon Hall Group Chief Operating Officer Rachel Cooke, reveals women comprise 25% or less of the C-suite in 70% of companies. The paper examines the barriers that lead to that disappointing statistic and features interviews with female leaders who have defied the odds and offer candid viewpoints on why barriers exist and how they can be overcome.
“With diversity and inclusion being a critical initiative for many companies, one element of that is creating a culture and atmosphere for women to advance to, and excel in, leadership positions,” Cooke writes in the report. “We have seen great examples of diverse leadership teams cascaded throughout an organization. However, these examples are still too limited and gender inequality continues to present a cultural divide among peers, creating distrust and friction that ultimately derail organizations from achieving their greatest potential.”
Says Sonia Dua, an India-based vice president for a global business process management services corporation: “The heart is in the right place, but change is not happening as fast as it can. There are still a lot of cultural biases that often hold women back.”
The 42-page report mixes a wealth of qualitative data with case studies and insights from women leaders, capped by critical calls to action for both organizations and aspiring women.
“The report seeks to reveal the reality of gender inequality in leadership, available development opportunities, and effective methods to reduce gender biases to help advance aspiring and qualified women to achieve their greatest potential for themselves, and their organizations,” Cooke said.
The survey research involved 420 respondents from 26 countries and more than 30 industries, plus more than 25 interviews with women leaders.
