Breckenridge Reveals Slate of Activities for Every Season
(PRWEB) April 10, 2015 -- When most people think about the state of Colorado, the immediate image that comes to mind is of snowy peaks and high class resorts. Movies and TV shows have helped fashion a vision of Colorado in the public's eye as a playground for the wealthy and elite, where movie stars and celebrities flock to places like Breckenridge to ski or snowboard during the day before cozying up to a roaring fire at night with a hot beverage in hand. The reality is that while Breckenridge is noted for their winter sports, tourists and locals alike can have fun all year round.
While Breckenridge has an elevation of 9,600 feet, there are a slew of summer activities to be enjoyed during that particular season. (1) The local mantra is "we came for the winter and stayed for the summer." This is true for many locals, such as Ron Shelton of Breckenridge Associates Real Estate, who fell in love with the area as a young man and then decided to live there permanently as an adult. Some things that tourists and locals can do during the summer months are fly fishing, horseback riding, hiking, rock climbing, whitewater rafting, bike riding, hiking, summer dog sledding, hot air balloon rides, and even gold mine tours.
There are several festivals to attend throughout the year in Breckenridge. There are almost forty concerts held during the summer that are put on by the National Repertory Orchestra and the Breckenridge Music Festival. These classical and non-classical concerts are held at the Riverwalk Center. Children will enjoy the Imagination Express that occurs weekly from late June to late August. One of the highlights of the summer is the Breckenridge Festival of Film, which will celebrate its thirty-second year later this June. This film festival features unique and varied independent films, receptions, premieres, retrospectives, and educational programs that is sure to delight any true film buff. The Arts District is open year round for lovers of fine art. This area is a pedestrian friendly arts campus that features resident artist facilities as well as spaces, both indoor and outdoor, for workshops and cultural events to take place.
While winter may blow cold and frost, there is still plenty of fun things to do. The Freeway Terrain Park holds the Winter Dew Tour that features the most extreme snowboarding and skiing in the country. People can embrace their inner Viking at the Ullr Fest that happens in mid January. Ullr is the Norse god of winter, and the town celebrates with a fun festival that has attracted as many as 12,000 enthusiastic partiers. (2) Another major event, of which Ron Shelton of Breckenridge Associates Real Estate is one of the founders, is the Budweiser International Snow Sculpture Championships. The last championship found sixteen teams from around the world competing in a hard fought competition as each team had only sixty-five hours spread across five days to create their wondrous creations. (3) Not to mention that they only had the use of hand tools to get the job done.
It seems like there's always something to do in Breckenridge, Colorado. As Ron Shelton of Breckenridge Associates Real Estate says, "I originally came to Breckenridge and Summit County as a child with my family during the summers, and I fell in love with the area. I love to ski and enjoy the International Snow Sculpture Championships during the winter, and then enjoy horseback riding, rock climbing, and biking during the summer. Between the many and varied cultural events that take place year round, and the plethora of choices for outdoor activities, you'll never lack for anything to do while in Breckenridge. Sadly, my goal of bringing home the gold in the Budweiser International Snow Sculpture Championships came to naught again this year as Team Lithuania took those honors." (4)
While Breckenridge, Colorado, is justifiably well known for their winter activities, there is still plenty to do throughout the rest of the year. There are art galleries, spas, five star restaurants, music concerts, plays staged at the local theater, a film festival, and so much more than can be enjoyed by both visitor and local alike. Breckenridge is a vibrant community full of history, outdoor activities, and culture that can be enjoyed across every season.
