Breckenridge Village's Susan Bookshar Named Board Member of Distinction
Columbus, Ohio (PRWEB) December 17, 2013 -- Susan Bookshar has been chosen as the 2013 recipient for LeadingAge Ohio's Board Member of Distinction award.
Bookshar is a former Breckenridge Village Advisory Board member. She began her term on the board in July 2008 and retired in June 2013 after accepting a marketing associate position at the Willoughby, Ohio, continuing care retirement community.
During her tenure on the board, she served on the marketing and human resources committees and also as vice-chair and board chair.
Bookshar's service came at a time of exponential growth for Breckenridge Village, including a new independent living satellite community called Grace Woods, completion of a successful $7M capital campaign to construct the Mahon Cultural Arts Center, the Veale Wellness and Aquatic Center, and a new rehabilitation wing at the Fairmount Health and Rehabilitation Center.
"During this time of tremendous growth, economic challenges and organizational changes, Susan has been in the midst. As advocate, cheerleader, role model and leader, she has championed our efforts and truly espoused the role of volunteer leader -- always supporting our mission," said Breckenridge Village Executive Director David L. Schell.
Breckenridge Village has a long legacy of volunteer leaders, including Bookshar's parents, the late Bud and Jean Owen, and her late uncle Arthur Schweitzer who were instrumental in leading efforts for the original campaign to construct Breckenridge Village.
Bookshar was honored with the award during LeadingAge Ohio's luncheon in September 2013.
