Bright Horizons Foundation for Children opens new Bright Space with Grampian Woman’s Aid
(PRWEB UK) 25 April 2014 -- Bright Horizons Foundation for Children celebrated the opening of their new Bright Space on Wednesday, in partnership with Grampian Woman’s Aid in Aberdeen.
With over 30 spaces across the UK and Ireland, Bright Spaces are the signature initiative of the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children, whose specific goal is to help children and families in crisis. Working with local communities, shelters and Bright Horizons clients, the Foundation are able to build stimulating spaces equipped with resourced bookshelves, games, toys and more for children of all ages. The Bright Space programme aims to create and support warm, enriching spaces within the community that provide children and families in need with a special place to play, have fun and most of all feel safe.
The Foundation has worked in partnership with Grampian Woman’s Aid to create a new Bright Space at their centre and residential refuge in Aberdeen. The project involved transforming an office into a family friendly, comfortable environment and washroom, rejuvenating the space and adding a range of resources, including toys, books, games and soft furnishings. The enhancements to this space will provide a relaxed and confidential area for women to talk to the centre’s advisors and discuss the particular help and support they need, as well as providing facilities for families to grow and develop together.
With over 120 families visiting Grampian Woman’s Aid each year, the Foundation will also work closely with the centre to provide additional support and volunteers through two local Bright Horizons nurseries, including literacy sessions for children to support parents that are guided by the Bright Horizons Growing Programmes.
Martina Murphy, Divisional Operations Director for Bright Horizons, said “The Bright Horizons Foundation for Children is proud to be working with Grampian Woman’s Aid to support the valuable work they do in helping vulnerable women and children. At Bright Horizons, supporting children and families is at the heart of what we do and with the help of our partners we are able to make a real difference to the lives of the children and families in our community. I have every confidence that this Bright Space will be a fantastic resource and in a very practical way achieve its purpose to make a real difference to children and families at a time in their lives when they are at their most vulnerable.’’
Grampian Woman’s Aid said “The Bright Space has provided a positive environment for the women and children, which can make a huge difference to the family who very often will be experiencing extremely stressful situations. Women's Aid would like to thank Bright Horizons for their support and the thought that has gone into the play equipment and interiors.”
