Britain's coupon entrepreneur Jordon Cox signs on with Havering College of Further and Higher Education for its new Peter Jones Enterprise Academy in Brentwood
Brentwood, Essex (PRWEB UK) 28 October 2013 -- Sixteen-year-old Jordon Cox hit the national headlines and appeared on breakfast time TV after his extreme couponing skills saved his mother hundreds of pounds on her shopping.
Jordon is excited to have completed his first week as a student at the Brentwood Innovation Centre in Brentwood High Street – the local hub for the new Peter Jones Enterprise Academy approved facility launched by Havering College of Further and Higher Education (http://www.havering-college.ac.uk).
The Shenfield teenager has joined 11 young entrepreneurs plus an apprentice to study for a BTEC level 3 in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship. The Peter Jones course is designed to develop and further the aspirations of young entrepreneurs by combining academic study with real-life business challenges.
Students get to run their own micro-businesses and benefit from masterclasses with entrepreneurs. Jordon is planning to cash in on his extreme couponing success with a coupon website created to help others save money just like him.
Jordon, who is looking to make life simpler for savvy shoppers, said: “I was doing A-levels but did not really like it because having started my own business I just felt that with the subjects I chose, it wasn’t really going to help me with my future. So I talked to my parents who had seen the Peter Jones course advertised and I am really pleased I signed up.
“It is a good course and I like it. In the business I am in at the moment, I have two business partners. They are already in businesses and have whizzed past some aspects and I feel if I want to do this in the future and be an entrepreneur, I need to learn a bit more about how a business runs.”
At 6ft 4in, Jordon is almost as tall as the Dragon’s Den star he looks up to. He is looking forward to meeting the man himself as all successful students are invited by Peter Jones CBE to his national graduation ceremony.
Jordon said, “I don’t know where my entrepreneurial skills have come from. My parents are not in business. I just think I am very creative and have a lot of ideas. I have been like that since a child. I have ideas in my head and just wanted to go ahead with them. I am looking forward to meeting Peter Jones.”
Jordon’s “light bulb” moment came while watching the American programme Extreme Couponing where contestants vie to make the biggest savings on their shopping.
He soon discovered he was a bit of a money saving whizz kid himself by managing to get his mum more than £100 in groceries with almost £100 off.
Jordon said: “I was in the local paper at Christmas for getting my ten pence Christmas dinner and someone from the Daily Mail contacted me on Twitter. Two months later I was on page three of the Mail and then on Breakfast Time.
“That led to me being invited to address American couponers at a conference in Orlando. Since then I have been the guest speaker at the Festival of Thrift in Darlington.”
